Mike & Ike File For Gay Divorce?

When I saw the headline "Mike And Ike Head For Gay Divorce" on The Huffington Post, all kinds of absurd thoughts rushed to my head. What's going to happen to Mike & Ikes? Are they going to separate flavors and put them in different boxes? Advertisers were messing with my head. This is just a simple case of ridiculous advertising.

Apparently, Mike & Ike need an advertising boost. So how do they create buzz and force the attention their way? They push forward the absurd story line that Mike and Ike are filing for Gay divorce. 

They will be promoting boxes and billboards with Mike or Ike crossed out. They even went far enough to create a story line that details Mike and Ike's reasons for divorce. According to Mike and Ike, who post on Tumblr and Facebook, they "don't agree on [candy] anymore", "Mike is color blind", "[Ike] sits at home playing Words with Friends solo", and "Mike wants to tour around the country jamming and hitting all the great music capitals." 

I don't know how Mike and Ike are so disagreeable. When I'm at the movies with them, both seem perfectly content when I'm eating them. Do the fictitious personalities make the candy taste better? No. Does the ridiculous advertising bring much needed attention that could possibly improve sales? Maybe. The headlines got my attention.

Great advertisements stick to my memory. I'll always remember the Patrick Chewing commercial for Snickers.
